Alopecia, commonly known as hair loss, can affect just your scalp or your entire body, and its effects can be either temporary or permanent. It can result from a variety of factors, including heredity, hormonal changes, medical conditions, or simply the normal aging process. While anyone can experience hair loss on their head, it is particularly prevalent among men. Hereditary hair loss, known as androgenic, follows a predictable pattern of receding hairlines and thinning crowns. Hormonal changes, such as those during pregnancy, menopause, or thyroid issues, can also trigger hair loss. Medical conditions, including autoimmune diseases like areata, scalp infections, and other skin disorders, contribute to hair loss as well. Certain medications, radiation therapy, and significant stress can induce hair shedding. Additionally, hairstyles that pull the hair tight or treatments like hot oil and perms can lead to traction. Understanding these causes is crucial for determining appropriate treatments and management strategies
